Famous American band PINK MARTINI is coming for the first time ever to perform at Prague’s Lucerna Music Bar on October 2! The band’s music crosses many genres starting from classical music to latino, jazz or classical pop: the main motto of Pink Martini is that their music is truly international and beautifully catchy. The tickets are available through Ticketpro network.

Pink Martini came into being in Portland, Oregon as a project of pianist Thomas Lauderdale who was involved with the politics at the time. He was unhappy about the state of fundraiser and charitable events’ music which he deemed unclassy and kitchy, and he decided to establish his own ‘little orchestra’ that would play quality music. Together with his friend China Forbes they started writing compositions and their first single “Sympathique” became an overnight sensation in France.

“All of us in Pink Martini have studied different languages as well as different styles of music from different parts of the world, […] inevitably, our repertoire is wildly diverse. At one moment, you feel like you’re in the middle of a samba parade in Rio de Janeiro, and in the next moment, you’re in a French music hall of the 1930s or a palazzo in Napoli. It’s a bit like an urban musical travelogue,“ says Lauderdale about the band. And he is right: his colleague, lead singer Forbes sings in more than 15 world languages!

Pink Martini’s quality is undeniable: their singles are to be heard in various films (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), TV series (Sopranos) or advertisements (Microsoft). Albums and compositions of Pink Martini often rock various world charts, sometimes hitting one country more than the others given the language it is sung in. At the end of September, the band is planning to release a new album titled “Get Happy,” to which is the upcoming international tour connected.
