From time to time, talent TV shows discover original and fresh new artists. And that’s what happened to New York-born Melanie Martinez who participated The Voice in 2012. Although she didn’t win, she managed to surround herself with renowned musicians and producers and her career began. Debut EP Dollhouse was produced by hip hop duo Kinetics & One Love and brought new possibilities for young and talented singer. Debut album Cry Baby released in 2015 is full of interesting names such as Kara DioGuardi (hitmaker for Carrie Underwood, Pink, Adam Lambert and many more) or Babbydady (founding member of Scissor Sisters). The result is an extravagant conceptual album displaying today’s pop culture – the pop culture that makes no difference between art and kitsch, mainstream and alternative. That’s also the reason why she is admired by extremely wide audience. She scored within alternative blogosphere, Billboard chart and even conservative institutions like Czech TV that named Cry Baby music video as a video of the week.
